About the artist:
Claire Gill uses a digital photomontage approach in Photoshop, digitally cutting out and layering details from photographs she has taken to create artworks inspired by a ‘Sense of Place.’ Her latest work has been inspired by the seafront at Brighton. As well as photographing figurative details, she captures incidental marks and textures found in the local environment, like torn bill posters on walls or peeling paint on the inside of doorways, utilising them like painted brush marks in her images. It is a slow, iterative process, which allows her to create largely invented scenes, full of texture, but retain a sense of the places that inspired them. Claire presents her work as limited edition prints, which sit visually between photography and painting, although they are entirely photographic.
