Anyone who has ever watched Lewes Bonfire night processions would be amazed. Inspired by vintage match boxes (aka the ‘fire starters’) I tried to capture the atmosphere of the night. Hand printed linocut onto archival white paper with oil based relief inks. Paper size 21 x 29.7cm, image size approx 10x15 cm.
Linocut print.
Dimensions: 23 x 32 cm.
About the artist:
Daria Arta, Sussex-based printmaker and artist, has lifelong passion for visual arts; she studied academic drawing and painting, worked on commissioned decorative fabric pieces as an apprentice with a Batik studio and has an MA in Arts & Cultural Policy. She started practicing linocut printmaking several years ago and it quickly became one of her favourite techniques. Daria’s linocut process starts with a hand drawn sketch, it’s inspiration might be a dramatic country view or a quirky town corner, a story, an object, a creature. Each print is made entirely by hand and produced in limited numbers. There is a variation between individual prints even in the same edition which enhances the uniqueness and charm of the hand crafted art.
