I created this print after visiting Ercolano, with Mount Vesuvius in the background and the remains of the ancient town surrounding the site. I was interested in the contrast between the archaeological landscape, the strong Mediterranean light and the everyday details of the place. The steps and narrow paths lead between the ruins, opening views towards the arches and the ancient harbour. The intense sun, pale stone and areas of shade are characteristic features of the site. A pink cat became the central element of the composition. Cats are a familiar sight around Ercolano, moving between the archaeological remains, gardens and surrounding houses. In this scene, the cat rests in the shade behind a ceramic pot, providing a small everyday detail within the historic landscape.
Giclée print. Limited edition of 100.
Dimensions: 40 x 50 cm (framed), 29.7 x 42 cm (unframed).
