Lycabettus Hill and the Cat in Athens

During my recent visit to Athens, I stayed in a small apartment with a balcony overlooking Lycabettus Hill. On the third day, a Thursday, I visited the Benaki Museum, located at the foot of the hill, taking advantage of its free entry after 6 p.m. As sunset approached, I began the climb towards the summit. From a distance, Lycabettus can appear steep and difficult to reach, but the ascent was surprisingly pleasant and manageable. Along the route, I noticed the vegetation growing across the rocky slopes, particularly prickly pear cactus and Agave americana, both flowering at the time. Their large forms, textures and flowers contrasted with the dry landscape and became an important part of my visual impression of the hill.
