Join textile artist Fiona Eastwood for a practical introduction to natural indigo and woad dyeing. Over the day, you’ll learn how to prepare and use a traditional dye vat to create beautiful blue tones on a range of fabrics and yarns.
In this workshop we will be using fresh leaves from woad and Japanese indigo plants to dye yarn and fabric beautiful shades of blue. We will also make a lime and fructose vat using natural indigo pigment.
You’ll prepare yarn and fabric for dyeing, including cotton, linen, silk and wool and produce samples so you have a record and can compare the results of each process.
Indigo dyeing is a magical process to watch as the fabric changes from yellow to blue as it is lifted from the vat and exposed to air.
This workshop is suitable for beginners or those wanting to learn more about dyeing with Indigo and woad, in a relaxed and supportive setting.
